STOP THE PRESS!

Congratulations to Rosie Maguire (1st Year), Andrea Curley (1st Year) and Louise Shanley (3rd Year) who were all selected for the Leinster U/15 Girls Soccer team recently. The girls, all members of the school soccer teams, have been trialling for a month for the opportunity to represent their province.

The three girls travelled to Athlone to take part in the Interprovincial All Ireland titles on Saturday and Sunday the 13th and 14th of November. The Leinster team went on to win the tournament undefeated. Manor House School is very proud of their achievements and hope that they will continue to strive to bigger and better things with their soccer achievements.

Good Luck to Louise Shanley who has been asked to trial for the Under 15 All Ireland team.

Pre Season Report

Compiled by: Alison Rodgers, Soccer Liaison, Transition Year Sports Coordination Team.

Over the years, soccer has been a strong sport at Manor House. The main aim of Manor house soccer is not to necessarily win every match but for each player to be committed and to try their very best.

This year, Manor House is entering two teams in the Leinster league - a Senior team and a Junior team, who have both done well over the years.

Next June, the Senior team will be going to Australia to take part in the Southern Skies tournament in Brisbane, Australia. Manor house will be the first school from the Republic of Ireland to be represented at the competition. Teams representing countries like New Zealand, Northern Ireland, Botswana, Taipei and South Africa have competed in this tournament.

There is a strong line of teachers who voluntarily coach the teams - Mr. Carpenter, Mr. Kenny, Ms. Cumisky, Ms. Kelly, Ms. Cunningham and Mr. Abrahamian.

Soccer training takes place on Monday lunchtimes and on Wednesday afternoon for the Senior players. New players are always welcome.

Soccer Match Report

Wednesday 10th November
Senior Soccer v Ashbourne CS

It was a very close game. Manor House players were playing very well. Ashbourne got the first goal in but two minutes later it was one all thanks to Carla and the great team work. A few minutes into second half it started to get windy but that did not stop carla to score another goal with help from the team. Amy Curley got a ball kicked into her face and we were all relieved she was able to play on. Emma played very well running around a lot and tackling.

Ashbourne soon scored another one and it was a two all draw. Shots were fired at Ashbourne's keeper, but she was doing well. Then Ashbourne got the ball and fired a shot towards our goal, but Charlene (our keeper) saved brilliantly by going into the splits.

Unfortunately, Ashbourne scored with three minutes to go and won the game 3 - 2. We still tried to attack but the whistle went for full time.

Well that is all to next time, but watch this space as Manor House will do better!!!!!!!!!!

Soccer Match Report

Monday 8th November
Senior Soccer v St. Marks, Tallaght (FAI Senior Cup)

This was a very entertaining game in St. Annes Park. Manor House went one up after a great strike from Carla Moran, from long distance. The lead was short lived after a good strike from St. Marks brought the game level. With spectators fearing the match going into extra time, Manor House pressed with excellent defending from Roisin Morgan who was unlucky not to score a wondergoal after a great run up the left wing. Manor House's work paid off when Andrea Curley scored a well earned goal to win the match with Manor House now in the round of 16 of the competition.

Player of the match - Roisin Morgan.
