Work Experience

Work Experience & Community Action

In TY you get the opportunity to see what the world of work is really like. You do one week of Community Action and 2 weeks of Work Experience. We were given an extra week of Work Experience because of the great feedback from the first week.

It can be hard getting a placement for work experience but once you have it then it will be well worth it. This year we had a wide range of placements that students did such as Offices,Hospitals,Playschools,Fire Brigades and many more.
Work Experience is really enjoyable and will give you an understanding of what you would like to pursue as your future career.

On the other hand Community Action is very different. There again it is hard getting a placement but if you look hard you will find one.
By doing community action you are helping your local community. Many people did Old Folks Homes or Meals on Wheels or helping the disabled.During this week you will be a great help to the community and to the people in the organisation or department you are working in. After this week you will feel great and feel as if you committed your time to a good cause. You might even want to start doing voluntary work in the future.

Overall both Work Experience and Community Action benefited the transition year students greatly and it was definitely one of the biggest highlights of TY.
