Photography

Darkroom openingThe dark room was set up in 2004 after extensive fundraising by staff and students. The photographic lab consists of a light room for viewing negatives and photographs and a darkroom where the photographs are developed and printed. There are 6 cameras and 4 enlargers.

The group meet after school every Wednesday.Club members are from all years. The Photography club is mainly a hobby club however, third years use the facility to print make images for their Junior Certificate Art Craft Design option. While the seniorcycle students may use the facility to explore the medium of photography and make images for their art portfolio.

During the course of the club, the students learn to use a fully manual SLR camera and develop and print their own film. Students are given a brief introduction into composition and photography and are shown examples by known photographers. This gives each student a good starting point to enable her to carefully choose her images.

Students learn the basic skills of developing films and printing film. They are also encouraged to experiment with photography as an artistic medium including handmade slides, pinhole cameras, acetate prints, sepia prints , close up photos and enlarging.
